As the peace activist Sylvia Boyes is charged under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act today Green MEP, Jean Lambert has pledged her support for Sylvia Boyes and Helen John, both of whom were arrested whilst protesting at the US communications base, RAF Menwith Hill.
Helen John and Sylvia Boyes have both been charged under anti terror laws and will appear before magistrates in the next few weeks. Today Jean Lambert commented; “The prosecution against Helen John and Sylvia Boyes, both long-standing peace activists, shows a distinct lack of judgment from the Government and the new anti terror laws.
“Helen John was the first person to be charged under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act and the case against both women is an absolute waste of time and money that the Government seem to be using as an example to others.
“Helen and Sylvia are certainly not terrorists and have done more for the cause of peace and justice than the British Government - maybe it’s the wrong people on trial here?”
