GREEN MEP WELCOMES IPCC RULING OVER CHRISTOPHER ALDER DEATH

As a watchdog rules that four police officers were guilty of “the most
serious neglect of duty” which led to the death of Christopher Alder in
1998, UK Green MEP Jean Lambert, who was named MEP for Justice and Human
Rights at the end of last year, has welcomed the results of the IPCC but
is dismayed that such a result could take so long.

Reacting to the decision Jean said; “I welcome the results of the IPCC’s
inquiry into the death of Christopher Alder but I am appalled that an
apology from the Police Officers responsible has taken eight years. It
is a disgrace that the Alder family have had to suffer and struggle for
nearly a decade before they could finally put Christopher to rest.

“It is quite incredible that Police Officers, who are meant to protect
us all, could simply stand by and watch another human being die,
regardless of their race.

“Unfortunately there are still far too many families who feel that they
have not achieved any justice from the system and continue to battle for
the truth. I trust that assurances and apologies from Tim Hollis will
mean that no other families will have to go through what Christopher
Alder’s family have suffered since 1998.”
