LGBT Green politicians: "We're proud to be Green and gay"

Following the recent Mark Oaten MP male escort scandal, LibDem President
Simon Hughes' coming out and the criticism of the LibDems by Outrage for
there being so few prominent out-LGBT politicians in that party, Nigel
Tart, Brighton-based National Green Party Spokesperson for Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual and Transgender Issues, said:

"Green LGBT activists completely agree with Outrage and Peter Tatchell
that, while this incident is extremely sad for Mark Oaten's family, it's
difficult to understand why there were so few out-gay senior politicians in
such a supposedly LGBT-friendly political party like the LibDems."

He added  "Although there are not (yet) any Green MPs at Westminster, we're
pleased that there are several prominent out-gay elected Greens in local,
regional and devolved government, including Darren Johnson, the Leader of
the Greens on the London Assembly and Patrick Harvie a Member of the
Scottish Parliament.  We welcome all progressive activists regardless of
their sexual orientation.  We also have Peter Tatchell as a member. We're
proud to be Green and gay."
