Greens have welcomed the Tory U-turn on their health passport which went against the mantra of "health care for all, free at the point of need", but have slammed their desire to privatize our NHS further.
Stuart Jeffery, Green Party Health Spokesperson commented: "The Green Party are the only major party opposed to all aspects of the privatization of the NHS, including the Private Finance Initiative which is causing severe financial burdens for NHS Trusts (1).
"The Tories have finally realized that people need the assurance that health care will be there when they need it. Insurance based systems in the US mean that huge numbers of people miss out on health care (2) which is intolerable any where in the world."
He continues, "Cameron's statement can be only half welcomed as it goes on to push for further privatization. We have seen how privatization of services and the sale of hospitals is causing increasing debt in the NHS.
"Private health care is simply not cost effective (3), and selling our hospitals to private companies so that they can make a profit is immoral. Health care must be provided by the state to ensure it is equitable and accessible."
